RAJA AMPAT DIVING AREA IN INDONESIA

The Raja Ampat area of Northwest Irian Jaya is filled with islands, surrounded by reefs and inundated with fish! After 9 years in the area we have only begun to discover the natural treasures awaiting us on each dive. The area's reefs are covered in a diverse selection of both hard and soft corals. Most of the areas reefs are pristine, with mile after mile of perfect hard corals, drift after drift of Dendronephya (soft) corals of many species and colors ranging from brilliant red, to shocking yellow pretty pink and exotic purple. Most reef dives are very colorful. Among, above, and on top of the corals are fish. Schooling fish, solitary fish, beautiful fish, ugly fish, large fish, small fish! Some fish that are considered to be rare in many parts of the world are abundant in the Raja Ampat area. For example, many Sargassum Frogfish are found in the floating weed in front of the dive resort. Wobbegong Sharks are found on many dives, often lying atop perfect table corals like a fish carefully arranged by a chef on a dinner plate. The Epaulette Shark, a small shark only a foot long, is numerous and found very often on night dives in the seagrass or even on the shelf of a wall dive. Giant Clams are found at many of our dive sites. These clams are large enough to swallow a child, but are embedded in the reef and covered with soft corals, tunicates and sponges so thick they can barely close their shells. Wai Island has a "Giant Clam Area" just off the beach. The offshore reef sites, especially those near Kri Island are poplulated with MEGATONS of schooling fish! Many different species school in the current sometimes mixing so that a diver is surrounded by a chaotic mass of fish life. The most common to see are barracuda, jacks, bannerfish, surgeonfish, fusiliers, parrotfish and snappers. All in many species. The fish are so dense that they sometimes block the view of your dive buddy or the surface! Most dives are drift dives due to strong currents in the area. The currents provide nutrients for the outstanding quantity and variety of fish life and corals in the area. A fabulous variety of colorful soft corals and plenty of reef fish are found at most sites. Large schools of fish are known to populate some areas, pelagics such as sharks, Manta and Mobula Rays, dolphin, whales and turtles are frequent sights. Visibility is good, but not spectacular, and is best in the morning dives. The water temperature is 82°-84°F (28°-29°C) year round. The average sea surface temperature between Nov and Apr is 28°C and can drop up to 2°C in the south with the SE trade winds from May to Oct. Actual values vary very little from average values being within 2°C on 90% of occasions.
The Raja Ampat area is not only stunning underwater. Topside, the islands have a very diverse topography with steep mountain shores and deserted white sand beaches. The area is far off the beaten track and is rarely visited by foreigners. The raw beauty of the islands will fascinate you. It's dense jungle interior is known for its many orchids and the paradise birds. Waigeo and Batanta have the Wilson's and the Red Bird of Paradise both endemic to this area, as well as abundantly present Lorikeets, Parrots, Kingfishers, Eagles and Hornbills.

There I felt very cold when other season instead of summer was coming especially winter. In summer we can wear thin clothing such as “batik” from Indonesia. Missing Rose Trace (Part 7)

Although located a bit remote but the Grass Valley has a pretty good tourism potential. Local government has also provided access road to this area, although still a rocky road . Farther than the distance traveled by walking, because the road is available for this vehicle should be around two hills.

Like the other tourist areas, in the Grass Valley there are also some pretty luxurious villa buildings. Three of them are named in Spanish,
Italian or other names in foreign languages , such as Villa Esperanza, Green Valley Villa, and Villa Cleopatra. There are some more modest villas too, such as Orchid villa and Jasmine villa.

There is also an old building in the form of a long hall. If we get into this building, there is a corridor that extends well. Beside the corridor there are empty rooms with no beds for rent. But it is provided roll mat that can be held for bedding. While on the left and right alley lined former chair made of foam rubber upholstered plastic seat that has been torn here and there. Some sofas are also equipped with small pillows. According to the guards ward, they also provide thick blankets for those who need them. There are four bathrooms in the rear of the building.

The next night, Dul went on strike. He no longer wants to sleep in a tent like last night, because he was scared, chased by a black shadow that seemed to roam around their tents. He said that it is clearly not human, but a ghost ...
"I do not want any more sleep in the tent, Yo ..Please get me lodging around here,.... "
"Come on,. It’s not a ghost! "Said Jalu .
"Obviously I saw the mysterious shadow . The image of a black robe with sharp eyes that was standing approximately ten feet in front of me."Dul told them again to convince his friends. Clearly last night that he was not dreaming.

Finally Aryo, Jalu and Iqbal surrendered. They were sorry to see Dul apparently still traumatized by the incident last night. Then they tried to find where Dul could sleep tonight, namely the residence hall.

"Wait here a minute. I want to look around inside, "said Aryo to his friends in front of the ward. He immediately came into the hall, and look at the situation there.
Soon Aryo came back and told Dul.

"There's an empty sofa on the right. You can sleep there. I had also a blanket leased for you, Dul. Come in ! Good night, dear.... "

Dul hesitated for a moment and then stepped inside. He saw along the corridor in the ward were shining with dim lights . The rooms there appeared to be full of people. Some are lying, and some are sitting on the sofas . When he looked at the sofas along the hallway, he also found a lot of people sit back half snooze.

On the right side there is an empty single seat. Dul immediately threw his body on it. The backpack filled with food was placed at his side. While he had left the backpack containing clothing at the camp. He seemed to begin getting sleepy. He slowly pulled then his blanket And got ready to sleep. Before his eyes closed, he glimpsed a little girl sleeping on the couch across the pathway. The girl was asleep as she bent her knees under her chin and wrapped her arms holding her feet.

It seems like only an instant he was asleep, when suddenly Dul heard a smooth sound that woke up him.
"Brother, would you go with me a minute ...?"

Dul awakened immediately.
"Please accompany me to the front of this house. My father is in the villa there.... "

Dul immediately rubbed his eyes briefly, to make sure whether he was dreaming or not. Apparently the little girl had been seen standing in front of his nose.... He did not believe it.
"Ahh .., maybe I'm dreaming ..." he thought.

But the fine voice echoed in his ears again, this time with a tone of force:
"Come on, brother .... Please go with me.... Just a minute ... "

Not yet had he answered, suddenly the girl's hand pulled Dul’s arm, forcing him to stand up, then dragged the fat body to move out of the room. Dul staggered for a moment, almost tripped over his blanket. He was only aware that he was not dreaming. Half an attractive girl ran along the corridor with Dul in her arm, and then jumped out of the ward.

Beyond the dark, cold air immediately ambushed their faces. The girl still dragging him ran to an existing villa nearby.
"Come on, quickly ! "her voice sounded again and again faintly….

Missing Rose Trace (Part 6)

Twilight sun began to peek in between the hills around the lake, when four teenagers were excitedly set up a tent. Meanwhile, near the lake, uncle Samin was watching their activities while at rest and enjoying cigarettes he was carrying. When finished setting up camp, Iqbal dropped to sit on the grass. He then reached into his backpack on the side, pulled out a book reading.

The evening began to cover the Grass Valley when they sat around the campfire. Meanwhile Jalu and Iqbal was busy preparing a simple dinner for them. The cool evening breeze began to bite the bone to make them close up jacket respectively. It’s silent everywhere. Peace and silence blanketed the Grass Valley . The soft sounds is only heard from crickets and the occasionally from wild beasts in the distance.

The night wore on; and the night air was getting cold. Thick fog began to fall over the lake. Aryo and Iqbal tried hard not to sleep, though it seems their eyes began to feel heavy to hold off. Half an hour ago uncle Samin went into his tent to sleep. Soft snoring sounds broke the silence of the night.
While in the distance a flash of shadow watched them, perfectly camouflaged in the dark of the valley ... ...

"Dul, wake up ...! "Shaking Dul’s shoulders, Iqbal tried to wake him from his beautiful dream.
Meanwhile, Dul seemed not to budge and still asleep. For several minutes, Iqbal tried to awaken him again, but it failed, too.
"Well, it should be woken up by violence ...” Iqbal thought as he walked toward the lake.

"Wake up...wake up! "Iqbal splashed Dul’s face with cold lake water.
"Tsunami ... tsunami ...! "Shouted Dul. He woke up with great shock, and thought that the water splashes came from a tsunami waves. And Iqbal smiled. His mission to wake up Dul had been successful.

The night passed without anything happening. The next day there was little new excitement in the tent of the Four Teens. After breakfast, Jalu found a threatening letter, tucked at the top of their tent. The content of the letter was short, written on a small paper-sized business card. This warning letter was sent without the name of the sender and without the address to whom, too. .Hastily Jalu called his friends.

"Let me see, Lu" Aryo grab soon the letters from Jalu, then read it loudly: - " DO NOT INTERFERE ... ...., IF YOU WANT TO BE SAFE ... .. !!!" -
"Uhh ...., This obviously fake ... I thinks there were young children who happened to pass by here tonight." Aryo sniffed her fingers as he tore the paper into small bits, and then threw it into the furnace cooking fire…..
